DRAG

12:22, Tuesday, January 20th, 2015.
Dear my diary.
Good sentence: Diligence is mother of good fortune. Never say die. Action speak louder than work. Action with vision to change the world. He who laugh today may weep tomorrow. Love me, love my dog. A flow will have an ebb. Handsome is handsome does. A blessing in disguise. Make hay while the sun shines.
NEVER SAY DIE
Today I am going to talk about the lesson which I learned during the last week. As I promised I will write the lesson which I learned up diary. So today I going to the lesson. The lesson's name is Drag.
Les't start:
                                                              DRAG
HIGH PRICE OF MOM'S HELP IS DRAG ON FAMILY BUSINESS. High price it means cost a lot in the mom is helping the family business. Her cost, meaning her salary meaning the money they pay mom is a drag on the business. A drag means you hurt something, or you slow something, or you cause a problem for something. We use drag when we talk about personality. In that situation, it means not fun.
DEAR ABBY:
Twenty years ago, My sister and I bought a business from our mother. The mom had the business, later she sold the business to her daughters, now the daughters owned the business. We all love and respect one another and get along well. They love their mom and their mom loves them. We will be finished paying off the business in two years. To pay off means to finish paying, so we use pay off when you must pay for something over time, maybe every month you pay some money, for example: If you buy a car every month, maybe you pay $200 and in 20 years You will pay off the car, means you paid everything. They will pay off the business, it means they bought the business from their mother, but they are still paying her money for the business, in two more years, they will finish paying her they will totally owned the business.
Our problem: Mom, who is now 77, still draws a salary from us above and beyond the payment for the business. The word draw means takes or to take. You know the meaning draw, like your drawing with a pencil, but here the meaning is different, here it means take. We use the word draw sometimes with money, with salary, salary means your payment every month for your job, your paycheck every month from your job. Above and beyond means more than, or also, or in addition to, or plus, so above and beyond means that plus more. Her workload has lessened greatly, as it should. Workload means how much work you do. Lessen means getting smaller. If you have a heavy workload then you are very busy at work. If you have a light workload then you are not very busy. She could do all of work in one day and lessen the burden of her salary. The burden is something difficult you must do, or something heavy you must carry. It means her salary is tough. However, she says she'd "go crazy" if she retire. Retire means stop working. We don't want that. She could still come in as often as she wants and do her personal, banking, letter-writing, reading, etc. These are all things she does at "work" on the clock. On the clock means during worktime, when you are working.
If we try discuss this, Mom gets hurt and says, "Just let me know when I'm not worth the money." We don't want that. We would hope she would see the fairness of this and suggest it herself.
Business expenses are going though the roof. Expenses means cost, money you pay out the opposite of income, income means money come in, expenses money going out. Going thought the roof means going up very fast, their cost are increasing. And there are updates we should make, updates means improvements, they need prove the business. But we can't do it as long as we are paying Mom at the level we are, on top of the money for the buy-outOn top of means also means in addition to, on top of means above and beyond, they both mean the same thing. On top of means in addition to what plus money for the buy-out. Buy-out means you are buying a business from someone else.
